Video: The Jota Cadillac V-Series.R makes its UK debut at Goodwood

Those in attendance at the 82nd Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport were treated to something very special when a current World Endurance Championship Hypercar made its way out on to the Motor Circuit for a world first.

The car in question was the Cadillac Hertz Team Jota V-Series.R, and it was the first time a Hypercar had been in action on a race track in the UK. And it was as impressive as you might expect.

The first thing you notice, if you haven’t seen one of these remarkable cars before, is how big they are. Hypercars are around five metres long and two metres wide. They weigh about a tonne, and yet their performance on track is comparable to a Formula 1 car.

Something you don’t get with F1 however, is the sound of a 5.5-litre V8 engine, which in the back of the Cadillac sounded absolutely savage as it rumbled around Goodwood for a series of demo laps of the Motor Circuit. It’s a hybrid system that incorporates an electric motor for a total power output of 680PS (500kW), and the V-Series.R’s party trick is to start up in silent electric mode before firing up the V8 with a guttural roar once it’s underway.

Current Jota driver Alex Lynn put the car through its paces on Saturday, and immediately got up to speed in one of the most capable racing cars to ever grace this historic track. It was a stunning sight as that gold Hertz livery flew through Fordwater and into St. Mary’s at incredible speed, before that V8 was unleashed down the Lavant Straight.

His pace increased lap after lap as temperatures builded and he got his eye in, and within four minutes he had completed three laps before bringing our first taste of this modern Hypercar to a close.

Jota celebrates its 25^th anniversary in 2025, and its presence at the 82^nd Members’ Meeting was in honour of that. The Cadillac was joined in the paddocks by several of the team’s most successful cars, a list that included Le Mans class winners and a Porsche 963 that claimed Jota’s first overall victory in the WEC at the 2024 Spa 6 Hours.

Tickets for the 83^rd Members’ Meeting will be available for a limited time immediately after this year’s event for Members and Fellows of the GRRC. Admission and Grandstand tickets will go on sale on Monday 14^th April for Members, and Wednesday 16^th April for Fellows.
