As owner Richard Hope explains, the car was leading the 1982 Monaco Grand Prix when it inexplicably ran out of petrol halfway into the final lap, leaving its driver, Andrea de Cesaris, stranded at Casino Square. What should have been a guaranteed first-place finish ended with third on the podium.
As Hope explains, the most interesting race cars aren't always the most successful, but even if it hasn't won a race, it isn't hard to see the appeal of an Alfa Romeo F1 car with a 3.0-litre V12 pumping out 545PS (401kW) at 10,000rpm especially when you hear it.
