Because the Lamborghini Murciélago LP670 R-SV has its own connections to the 24 Hours of Spa, that very event was the site of its unveiling back in 2010. Based on the production Lamborghini Murciélago LP670-4, this model was built by Reiter Engineering to compete in the FIA’s short-lived GT1 World Championship running from 2010-2012. The first year was the most successful, with Frank Kechele and Ricardo Zonta winning the championship races in both Spa and Navarra as Reiter finished third in the Team’s Championship, though the car was less successful in the Münnich Motorsport team, finishing ninth overall.
So that may have been the high point for this Lambo in that race series, but here it makes its return to a happy hunting ground 14 years later, and what a sight it makes. Or should we say sound? Because the highlight of this video is the visceral noise of its 6.5-litre V12 engine screaming around Spa. As the focal point of this footage, we are treated to what feels like an endless highlights reel of the Murciélago roaring past again and again.
The whole occasion is a spectacle – from participating in the opening parade, navigating winding Belgian streets lined with spectators, to the action on the track where the occasional flickers of fire from the exhaust only add to the theatrics. Indeed, a fitting tribute to endurance racing legends. All there is to do is to sit back, turn up the volume and enjoy!
