One iteration of the Ford GT that doesn’t get enough attention is the mid-noughties model. When the 2005 Ford GT was unveiled to the public, the response was a mixed bag. On the one hand it was just a stunning new supercar from a well-known brand and on the other it was a sacrilegious stain on the GT40 legacy. Whichever side of the fence you sat on it was an exciting time to be a Ford fan.
However, the racing versions of that GT comeback are often drowned out by the success of the original and current models. If you strip back the results and just focus on the aesthetics, I’d put a strong case forward that this Ford GT GT1 is the best looking and best sounding of all the racing Ford GTs. That may be a dangerous thing to say for someone who works at Goodwood, but just watch the onboard and exterior footage in this video and tell me I’m wrong. I’ll even go one further and say that from the rear, the Ford GT GT1 is one of the best-looking racing cars ever made.
