Video: Scirocco pulls off the perfect loop

16th September 2016

The Glover Trophy is a glorious celebration of early sixties 1.5-litre Formula 1 cars. In the era before downforce, these things could at any moment get very slippery. These cars are an exercise in throttle control and attentiveness to the levels of mechanical grip on offer.

Paul Woolley in the Number 17 Scirocco-BRM finds out the hard way when a back wheel trails onto the grass. The quick change in surface grip sends the car sideways and on to the opposite grass plain where it rotates, scrubbing off the speed. A lot of valuable time lost for Woolley.
