There wouldn’t be a Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport without the Gordon Spice Trophy. Over more than a decade since first appearing on the schedule for the 72nd Members’ Meeting this race has become one of the most fiercely competitive events in historic motorsport.

Featuring a grid made up of cars from a legendary period of the British Saloon Car Championship, Goodwood’s annual tin-top showcase should be at the top of everyone’s must-watch list.
Officially, it’s a race for homologated saloon cars over 2.8-litres of a type that raced in FIA Appendix J Group 1 between 1970 and 1982 or the British Saloon Car Championship between 1976 and 1982. All you really need to know is the Goodwood Motor Circuit will be taken over by a breathtaking battle between many of the greatest touring cars of all time.
The race is named after Gordon Spice, who is perhaps most famous for his exploits at the wheel of Ford Capris with which he claimed six consecutive class titles in the BSCC from 1975 to 1980, and absolutely dominated the 3.0-litre class from ‘76 to ‘80 with several overall race wins.
It’s that extraordinary era of Group 1 saloon car racing that is brought back to life with the Gordon Spice Trophy. Capris and Chevrolet Camaros go head-to-head with Ford Mustangs and Rover SD1s in a wonderful showdown between V6 and V8 engines. The noise alone is spectacular, but the high-speed, close-quarters action between these touring car titans is always unmissable.
Earlier iterations of this race saw the big- engined Capris and Camaros face off against smaller capacity Minis, Volkswagen Golfs and Triumph Dolomite Sprints originally made famous by legends like Andy Rouse, but those cars were given their own race, the Win Percy Trophy, in 2025. As of the 82nd Members’ Meeting, the Gordon Spice Trophy is now run exclusively for the big beasts.
But it’s not just the cars themselves that make this race such a showpiece event, the list of drivers is regularly packed with motorsport legends. In years gone by, the Gordon Spice Trophy has seen the likes of Tom Kristensen take the wheel of a Rover SD1, the reigning British Touring Car Champion Tom Ingram and three-time World Touring Car Champion Andy Priaulx wringing the neck of a Camaro, and Festival of Speed Hill record holder Romain Dumas putting on a masterclass in a Boss Mustang.
In 2025, the Gordon Spice Trophy will retain its two-part format, with VIPs going head-to-head in Part 1, before the owner drivers take over for Part 2. Both results are then combined to crown an overall winner, last year saw Fred Shepherd and Dumas take the spoils, and we can’t wait to watch the action unfold all over again during the 83rd Members’ Meeting.
The 83rd Members' Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport takes place on the 18th & 19th April 2026. Tickets are on sale now for GRRC Members and Fellows.
