How’s this for a front row: two Aston Martin DB4 GTs and a Ferrari 250 SWB. That’s what we were treated to for the Moss Trophy at the 82nd Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport, and the rest of the grid wasn’t too bad either. Jaguar E-Types, a Mercedes Gullwing, Austin-Healey 3000s, Lotus Elites... no wonder this is considered the most beautiful grid of the 82MM weekend.

But this is far from a mere beauty parade. The contenders in this one-driver race are intent on winning, and that means we’re treated to balletic displays from a field of closed cockpit GT cars of the late 1950s and early ’60s. You really do need to witness it to believe it.

In the end, the action was brought to a close two minutes early, when Jaguar E-type driver Niall McFadden went for a gap that wasn’t really there on the way into the chicane. Rather than collect the Mercedes Gullwing of Hans Kleissl, he made the adroit decision to collect the polystyrene chicane instead.

More drama ensued after the chequered flag dropped. On the road, the battle for victory was between the evenly matched Aston Martin DB4 GTs of Dario Franchitti and Harrison Newey, but post-race inspections revealed a technical infringement. That meant the battle that followed in their wake would reveal the real winner. Watching the full race with that knowledge puts a different slant on things, but this remains a wonderfully evocative race between classic GT cars.

Tickets for the 83^rd Members’ Meeting will be available for a limited time immediately after this year’s event for Members and Fellows of the GRRC. Admission and Grandstand tickets will go on sale on Monday 14^th April for Members, and Wednesday 16^th April for Fellows.
