Split into two parts, the first race is for the professional hired hands, while in Part 2 it’s the cars’ owners who take to the track. The grid is based on the finishing order from Part 1, which meant Peter Smith in his Ford Capri kept an otherwise all-American front row honest. James Thorpe (Chevrolet Camaro Z28) started from pole with Bill Shepherd (Ford Mustang Boss 302) in second place.
And it was the big-banging American cars that would dominate proceedings, with a host of European cars doing what they could to keep them honest. Ford Capris were numerous, while Rover SD1s and a sole BMW 3.0Si was also holding its end up. A special mention, too, for the Volvo 242 which is a firm fan favourite – affectionately known as the Flying Brick – in its Bastos livery.
But which comes out on top when the chequered flag falls? This full-race video captures every second of the action.
