As well as having a host of drivers from many different disciplines from touring cars to sportscars to IndyCar and more, the Member’s Meeting offers a huge depth of machinery. Everything from Formula Juniors of a type that Jim Clark drove during the early stages of his career, to large-capacity touring cars that no nothing other than racing door to door and bumper to bumper.
From the Minis of the Whitmore Cup to the Ferraris and Ford GT40s of the Gurney Cup there is something for everyone and each of these cars requires its own specific technique, which makes the variety of racing over two jam packed days even more fascinating.
Then there’s the Edwardian cars of the S.F. Edge Trophy – with their stout statures and rubber band tyres – don’t respond well to being thrown around and, of course, the motorbikes of the Hailwood Trophy provide another dimension.
All of those elements conspired to produce a weekend full of dramatic racing, historic cars balanced on a knife edge as they engaged in relentless duels for position around the high-speed Goodwood Motor Circuit.
