While the Goodwood Members’ Meeting presented has now been running for more than a decade in the modern era, the Win Percy Trophy has a much shorter history.

In fact, the first running only took place in 2025. It was inaugurated to give smaller-engined cars — those with a capacity of less than 2.8 litres — their own competition, while the larger cars continued in their own Gordon Spice Trophy.
The Win Percy Trophy cars date from 1976 to 1982 and are the kind of cars you would have seen in a supermarket car park in that era. Well, sort of. Those daily drivers wouldn’t have been finished in such eye-catching liveries, and neither would their interiors have been stripped of superfluous trim and upholstery. And if a car of the Win Percy Trophy race had any groceries on board, they’d be pretty scrambled by the time the chequered flag fell.
You only needed to witness the battle between Jake Hill (Ford Escort RS2000) and Andre Lotterer (Volkswagen Golf GTI) in the 2025 Win Percy Trophy to draw that conclusion. In the closing stages of the two-driver race that was fought hard right to the flag, Hill made the most of a back-marker to take a lead that Lotterer was unable to retake. But that wasn’t for the want of trying, the nose of his hatchback remaining in close quarters to Hill’s saloon for lap after lap.
That thrilling first edition has us very much looking forward to what will transpire at the 83rd Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport, when a new cohort of VIP drivers will go head-to-head in these vintage saloons.
