The first Peter Collins Trophy took place at the first running of the modern era Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport, and has now taken place four more times. On each occasion, it has been a different car and driver combination to take the win, so there are no forgone conclusions in this race for 1950s sportscars.

That initial Peter Collins Trophy at 2014’s 72nd Members’ Meeting was enlivened by some oil laid down by the Allard of Patrick Watts. Many a competitor pirouetted as a consequence, and it was George Edney aboard his Lester-MG that crossed the line first. Two years later, an orangey-pink sunset created the ambience for the 2016 Peter Collins Trophy. With headlights ablaze, the field recreated the scene of the Goodwood 9 Hour races, and it was Sam Hancock who was victorious with his Cunningham C4R.
It would be three years before the Peter Collins Trophy returned, this time at the 77th Members’ Meeting. Mist and grey skies lacked the romance we had two years prior, and a short safety car session interrupted proceedings. On the restart, it was a battle of two Jaguar D-types with Martin Stretton chasing down John Pearson. A red flag foreshortened the action and it was Pearson who came out on top.
The 79th Members’ Meeting in 2022 saw the Peter Collins Trophy field return to West Sussex. A dry track made for much deft car craft and a decent pace, and victory was taken by James Thorpe aboard a Lister-Jaguar ‘Flat Iron’. The most recent Peter Collins Trophy took place in 2024. There were battles throughout the grid, but most notably up front between the Maserati 250S of Richard Wilson and the Jaguar D-type of John Pearson. It looked as though it would go down to the wire until a mechanical problem forced Pearson’s retirement, leaving the win to Wilson.
