Sadly, we can't offer you an actual drive at the Revival, but we can give you the next best thing as we jump onboard to ride along with Alex Brundle, competing in the Whitsun Trophy in the ferocious Lola T70 Spyder.
The first thing that strikes is the sheer noise of the thing. The gentle hum in the background of this video means we can't guarantee that no microphones were damaged during production, but even from the safe distance of your laptop speakers, it's easy to understand just how much of an all-out attack on the senses this car is. We shudder to think how Brundle's ears were after a near 30-minute onslaught.
It was particularly brutal because his car clearly wasn't geared for Goodwood's long straights and fast corners, as it spends a good few seconds head-butting its rev limiter, producing a sound that we would best describe as anti-aircraft fire. It's too much for the engine, which, if the rear-view shot is anything to go by, spends much of the race trying to wriggle free from its mountings.
There's no doubt the Lola is an absolute monster of a machine, which makes Brundle's talent for keeping it on the road all the more admirable. You can sense him feeding the throttle gently before opening it up on the straights, hard on the brakes into the next corner, feeling the steering load up, correcting any lift off before burying the throttle and starting the whole process over again.
But enough of the talking, click above to watch Alex Brundle hammering the opposition — and his ears — in his Lola T70 Spyder.
