The RAC TT Celebration represents the pinnacle of historic motorsport at Goodwood, it’s the blue riband event of the Revival, and it’s been held every single year since Motor Circuit was first re-opened back in 1998.

Over the years many of the world’s most illustrious racing drivers have competed and achieved success in the RAC TT Celebration, and it has grown into a race that everyone wants to win. Its prestige has grown to such an extent that it’s respected as a race in its own right, no longer just a celebration of a fabled era from Goodwood’s past.

Some true legends of motorsport have featured on the grid of the RAC TT Celebration, but a very select few have earned the distinction of race winner.

The inaugural running in 1998 was won by the duo of Nigel Corner and Barrie ‘Whizzo’ Williams, who was one of a small handful of drivers who raced at Goodwood in both of its active eras. Corner returned to race at the front a year later with his new team-mate, touring car stalwart Mark Hales, claiming a second win ahead of a field that included the likes of Sir Stirling Moss, Derek Bell, Jochen Mass and Damon Hill.

IndyCar legend Danny Sullivan got in on the act in 2000, racing to victory alongside Steve Hitchins to chalk up the first RAC TT Celebration success for the Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe. More E-Type success followed in 2001 with five-time Le Mans 24 Hours winner Emanuele Pirro taking his first win alongside Gregor Fisken.

The all-star pairing of Henri Pescarolo and Patrick Tambay took a first win the AC Cobra in 2002 before Richard Attwood and Mark Hales claimed back-to-back victories in an ISO Bizzarrini A3C, the first of which saw Hales take the lead from Juan Manuel Fangio II on the penultimate lap to conclude a thrilling battle.

Pirro returned to the top of the rostrum in 2005, completing another dream team pairing alongside Dario Franchitti, who at that stage was yet to become an IndyCar Champion. Nine-time Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen added his name to the list of RAC TT Celebration winners in 2011 when he won alongside Kenny Brack in a Daytona Coupe.

Gordon Shedden holds the distinction of being the only three-time winner, and he claimed his first in 2015, alongside Chris Ward in a Jaguar E-type. The pair retained their crown a year later, and Shedden completed his hat-trick in 2022 with Andrew Smith at the wheel of an AC Cobra.

Andre Lotterer became a two-time winner in between, claiming back-to-back triumphs in 2019 and 2020 first with Chris Wilson in a Cobra, then with Fred Wakeman in a Lister Coupe.

The past two years have seen the rise of another two-time winner in current BTCC star Tom Ingram, who completed a stunning charge for the lead to win ahead of Jake Hill to claim his first victory at the wheel of a TVR Griffith 400, before successfully defending his crown a year later alongside Richard Kent in the ‘Cut 7’ E-type.

The RAC TT Celebration is getting more competitive year after year, with a longer list of big-name drivers signing up to take part, so we can only look forward to seeing who can add their name to this distinguished list of race winners when the Revival returns in 2026.
