On the 13th September 2013, we shared a video we knew the world would love, but we didn’t realise quite how much. It was this: a heroic drive from Kenny Bräck in qualifying for the Whitsun Trophy, behind the wheel of a GT40 belonging to legendary Formula 1 car designer Adrian Newey.
Even now this video sends our jaws to the floor. Starting as Bräck heads into St. Mary’s, the GT40 ahead goes off into the grass while Bräck beautifully balances the car’s rear end, catching little snaps of oversteer one-handed while changing gear.
Sliding through Lavant, the oversteer continues as Bräck powers down the straight — not relaxed, minor moments of oversteer
, but full-on snaps as the thunderous V8 engine throws power to rear tyres that are desperately to find traction.
With rain hammering down Bräck rapidly closes the gap to yet another GT40, trying to get the car straight as he exits the chicane to start another flying lap, but finding nothing but consistent oversteer. Imagine having a heart rate monitor on Bräck at this point.
If you’ve not got your Goodwood Revival tickets just yet, let this video serve as your reminder to absolutely get your Goodwood Revival tickets. Rain doesn’t make the Revival less enjoyable, it gives us incredible drives like this and racing that’s absolutely bonkers.
This year’s Whitsun Trophy will once again prove to be an utter riot. There are four Ford GT40s, five Lola-Chevrolet T70 Spyders, a Shelby Cobra 427, a McLaren-Chevrolet M1, both a McLaren-Chevrolet M1B and a McLaren-Oldsmobile M1B, plus a Attila-Chevrolet MkIII, Porsche 910, Cooper-Ford Monaco T61M King Cobra, and so many other disgustingly fast machines.
FOMO is the worst. Don’t get Revival FOMO this weekend.
