Jenson Button is set to return to the Goodwood Revival in 2025, when he lines up to race in the RAC TT Celebration in his new Jaguar E-type, bought specifically for the occasion.
The 2009 Formula 1 World Champion made his historic racing debut at Revival back in 2021, where he competed in the Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy alongside Alex Buncombe. For his return the following year he doubled his driving duties, racing two separate E-types in both the Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy and the RAC TT Celebration, while in 2023 he expanded further, taking part in the St. Mary’s Trophy presented by Motul, the Fordwater Trophy and the Freddie March Memorial Trophy, once again partnering Alex Buncombe.
After a year’s absence, Button will once again grace the Motor Circuit with a singular focus on the RAC TT Celebration, a star-studded race that honours the iconic Grand Touring cars of the era where the RAC TT was held at Goodwood, between 1960-’64.
No doubt he'll be hoping for a better outcome this time round, after the previous bid for glory with Harrison Newey was curtailed by reliability issues. Button’s partner for this year’s hour-long race is yet to be announced, but you can expect them to line up alongside a whole host of famous names on a grid that features everything from AC Cobras to Porsche 904s and of course, Jaguar E-types.
Button’s specialist acquisition, the 1962 ‘CUT 8’ E-Type, is the last of the Jaguars prepared by the great privateer Dick Protheroe and was raced by Ed Nelson to success at the 1965 St. Andrews Cup at Brands Hatch, as well as during the 1966 season at circuits including Mugello and the Nürburgring, where he made his European debut.
It remained in action, racing throughout the 2000s and has prior experience in the RAC TT Celebration, competing with a previous owner at the 2013 Revival. Now ‘CUT 8’ returns to the Motor Circuit and the TT under the guidance of a competitor who’s far from a stranger to the E-type.
Ahead of this year’s event Button said: “I am delighted to be coming back to the Goodwood Revival in September, for the most enjoyable weekend of racing of the whole year. In fact, I love it so much, I have bought my own car to take part! I am very excited to be racing my ‘new’ Jaguar E-type in the TT. I can’t wait.”
The Duke of Richmond CBE DL said: “The TT is a firm favourite amongst our competitors and spectators, so I’m sure everyone will share my excitement that Jenson has bought his very own Jaguar E-Type to compete in this year. I look forward to seeing him in action!”
You’ll be able to see Jenson Button on the grid at the 2025 Goodwood Revival for the RAC TT Celebration, which will take place on the Sunday afternoon.
