2025 RAC TT Celebration preview | Goodwood Revival

02nd May 2025
Adam Wilkins

The RAC TT Celebration is a race that Revival-goers feel as much as they see and hear – especially those who are down near the startline when a whole pack of 1960s GT cars let rip off the line in one glorious harmony of exhaust and induction noise. It’s something you have to experience to truly appreciate.

The Goodwood Motor Circuit originally hosted the RAC Tourist Trophy from 1958 to 1964. The first was won by Stirling Moss and Tony Brooks, who were sharing an Aston Martin DBR1. Other drivers of note in that inaugural TT included Roy Salvadori (who famously loved the venue), Jack Brabham, Graham Hill, Bruce McLaren and Innes Ireland. From such an auspicious start, the RAC TT grew to become part of the World Sportscar Championship and, for a short while, the FIA GT Cup.

Revival’s recreation of the RAC TT retains the two-driver format and runs for a full hour. Such a long race, with the added variable of a driver change, the RAC TT Celebration is always unpredictable, and characterised by plenty of overtaking and some of the closest racing you’ll see on the Revival weekend. The race is for closed cockpit GT cars and the grid resembles that of the final running of the race in period. AC Cobras and Jaguar E-types are usually battling it out at the sharp end of things, but they don’t always have it their own way – there have been some wildcard results over the years.

Whoever is out in front, you're certain to see a display of deft skills behind the wheel as star drivers from the highest echelons of international motorsport come together to tame these big-hearted GT cars.
