We’re big fans of all strains of Alpine A110. What’s not to like about a small lightweight sportscar that prioritises driver interaction above all else? And for the car’s swansong, literally named the A110 R Ultime, Alpine has pulled out all the stops to create the fastest and most powerful version of the car. At a price...
The Ultime makes its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, scything its way past the house and up by the flint wall as deftly as you’d expect of the nimble two-seater. Quickly, too, thanks to a four-cylinder turbocharged 1.8-litre engine that has had the wick turned up to 349PS (256kW) and a whole load of additional downforce, as evidenced by the generous complement of wings, splitters and diveplanes.
It really is a road-legal track car and therefore the most extreme variant of the Alpine A110. Production will be limited to 100 units, which means there’s a price for such exclusivity – the Ultime starts from £221,000 and rises to £276,000 for the 15-off La Bleue edition.
