The McMurtry Spéirling’s record-breaking run back in 2022 reset the benchmark of what we thought was possible on the Goodwood Hillclimb when it completed the course in 39.08 seconds, but we were treated to several more scintillating efforts across four sweltering days at the 2025 Festival of Speed.
With cars reaching speeds of more than 100mph on the approach to Molecomb corner, the potency of modern-day machinery was laid bare, meanwhile Romain Dumas achieved a monstrous 157.5mph as he crossed the finish line in the Ford Supertruck. It’s obvious how these drivers can scale the Hill as fast as they do when you see how quickly these cars power from corner to corner.
The Alpine A110R Ultime made use of its lightweight agility to weave its way to the finish line in 52.01 seconds, but the brute force of the Ford Mustang GTD, and the Holden Monaro 427C with its 7.0-litre V8 proved more advantageous with times of 50.7 and 50.3 respectively.
In all, seven cars duck underneath the 50-second mark with everything from racing Porsches to historic Can-Am cars, a special edition Koenigsegg, and a pair of modified specials, namely the Subaru Project Midnight and the Supertruck. Each exhilarating, but only one could leave the Festival of Speed with the fastest time of the weekend.
