If you want a very fast Audi but you don’t want one that wears its heart on its sleeve, the Audi e-tron GT quattro may be the car you’re looking for. It’s the most powerful road-going Audi in history, yet it doesn’t shout about its performance potential in the way, say, an RS6 does. This is despite the fact it has more power.
The performance figures reflect that, the battery car covering 0-62mph in 3.0 seconds against the 3.5 seconds required by the 4.0-litre V8 powered RS6. Of course, deploying such performance will squander the e-tron’s 93kW battery and reduce its 374-mile range.
The e-tron GT quattro shares its platform with the Porsche Taycan and is Audi’s take on the long-legged EV tourer. While it has an intentionally less sporting intent than its Porsche cousin, it can still cover ground with pace and poise.
And now it has undergone a mid-life revision, but you’ll need to know your e-tron GTs particularly well to spot the subtle aesthetic changes. The slimmer, mildly more aggressive headlights are just about the only change that’s apparent on the outside.
Improvements include an uprated battery that now has a 105kW capacity (up by 12 per cent) while being 9kg lighter than its predecessor. It can also accept a faster charge. Range rationalisation means that the entry-level model has been removed from the pricelist with just the S, RS and RS Performance models remaining. Power outputs now start at 680PS (500kW) and rise to 924PS (679kW).
Watch as it makes quiet, swift progress up the Goodwood Hill.
