This is the Maserati MC20 with the wick turned up. The GT2 Stradale is inspired by the European racing series of the same designation, which sits somewhere between the GT3 and GT4 categories (even if the numerical order may suggest otherwise...).
Maserati turned the MC20 into a racing car in 2023, and now it has inspired the GT2 Stradale for the road. There’s no doubting its circuit-bound intention thanks to that towering wing and additional aero addenda. It has been on a weight-saving programme too, tipping the scales at 60kg less than the regular car. A third of that reduction is achieved just in the carbon fibre seats.
While weight is down, power is up. With 639PS (469kW) it’s up slightly thanks to ECU remapping. All the hardware of the 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged Nettuno V6 engine, both internal and external, remains unchanged. That has to be good news for longevity on track. Talking of which, carbon ceramic brakes as standard mean the stoppers will resist fade lap after lap.
It’s no purely single-minded track machine, though. A compliant ride ensures that it lives up to the Stradale name. The springs have been stiffened by ten per cent but otherwise the hardware remains that same, just in a different states of tune. A cockpit lavishly trimmed with Alcantara contributes to the road-going nature, too.
But it’s also designed to acquit itself well on track, and from its run up the Hill at the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, we can witness it doing precisely that.
