Here’s the most extreme Maserati money can buy. Arguably the spiritual successor to the MC12 is the MC20 derived track-only MCXtrema. We say MC20 derived, but you’ll need to look closely to see any visual similarities between the two cars.
Aerodynamic efficiency is the aim here, with a thoroughly revised front end and a spectacular array of downforce generating hardware. There’s no road-going pretence here at all, and it therefore looks as at home on the Hill as it would any circuit in the world.
It looks every inch the racing car inside, too. Don’t expect to find your usual leather-trimmed Maserati interior here. Even the passenger seat is optional, but then so is a telemetry system, so that gives you an idea of the car’s priorities.
None of this is for show. The 3.0-litre Nettuno V6 engine has been fettled to produce 730PS (540kW), and the car weighs only 1,300kg so it’s very potent. Meanwhile, the fully adjustable suspension features new double wishbones and four-way adjustable dampers with fully adjustable geometry.
If you want the ultimate trident-badged track car, we’re afraid you’re already too late. Only 62 MCXtremas are going to be built and they have all been sold. Still, we can more than make do with the spectacle of watching it ascend the Goodwood Hill.
