Video: 2024 Festival of Speed Friday full highlights

Friday was the first full day of the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard and 2024’s edition was packed nose to tail with all sorts of spectacular sights, sounds, and moments. Nine hours is a lot to take in, so we took the liberty of condensing down some of the best moments into a selection of highlights.

For fans of endurance racing history and the most musical cars, in the Matra MS670 you get a two-for-one. That V12 remains unmatched even after over 50 years for the beauty of its sound. Quite in contrast is the steam wagon, which trades a sonorous V12 for a fire and a boiler, giving us an insight into the early days of the motoring revolution .

It’s a particular delight to see the Bugatti Type 35 extended at full pace up the Hill in this its 90th year, by Goodwood star Julian Majzub. An icon of the event is of course the Beast of Turin, which is sharing Duncan Pittaway’s time this weekend with the steam car mentioned above. We see the double Le Mans-winning Porsche WSC-95, Lanzante’s latest McLarenP1 HDK LM25 as well as the monstrous Auto Union Type C V16.
