But if you couldn’t make it to Goodwood, fear not, because out of the many, many runs performed up the Hill over the four-day event, we have chosen 21 of the best-sounding cars from this year.
We get off to as solid a start as you could hope, with Horacio Pagani’s Huayra R kicking off the video. Unlike your ‘regular’ Huayra, which suffers from the muffling effects of forced induction, the Huayra is a Pagani as it should be done, with a 6.0-litre Mercedes-AMG V12 pumping out 850PS (625kW) at an ear-splitting 9,000rpm. In acoustic terms, it’s a car you’ll struggle to beat.
But then, the Festival of Speed isn’t short of wonderful sounding machines. If you’re not a fan of a highly tuned Mercedes V12, then this video can (once you seek medical advice) point you in the direction of plenty more V12s from the likes of TWR, GMA and Aston Martin.
Really, though, you can hear every car imaginable here. The 28.4-litre ‘Beast of Turin’ has four cylinders well and truly covered; we have V6 and flat-six screamers; V8s from the likes of Koenigsegg, Audi, and Ford, as well as the assault on the ears that is the W16 Bugatti Bolide.
When it comes to noise, though, the high-pitched wail of a V10 is hard to argue with. The Ferrari F399 Formula 1 car is one of the best on offer, giving us a clear reminder why F1 bosses are considering a return for the V10.
But that’s enough talking. Crank up your speakers, headphones on standby. These are the 21 best-sounding cars to tackle the Hill this year.
