Tim Peake, the British astronaut who spent 186 days on the International Space Station from December 2015 to June 2016, has been announced as Ambassador of FOS Future Lab presented by Randox.
FOS Future Lab, curated by Lucy Johnston, is the centre of Goodwood’s celebration of ‘Technology for a Better World’, a physical space at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard that showcases innovations in the areas of health, space, deep sea exploration, robotics and AI.
Creativity and technical excellence are the name of the game, and FOS Future Lab’s presenting partner, Randox, leads a list of exhibitors that so far includes the European Space Agency (ESA), Seabed 2030, and a humanoid robot called Ameca developed by Engineered Arts and presented at Future Lab by The National Robotarium.
Four key themes will once again be central to this year’s FOS Future Lab exhibits. In 2025 they are: New Industrial Revolutions, Exploring Spatial Intelligence, Mobility for Humanity and Our Big Blue Dot.
Aside from the technology showcases, the Festival of Speed will also welcome more than 1,000 students from schools across England to take part in a series of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) activities at FOS Future Lab.
“I’m delighted to be returning to the Festival of Speed as Future Lab Ambassador, having seen firsthand just how it inspires thousands of visitors every year,” Peake said.
“Future Lab is an incredible forum in which to learn about the science and technology driving our understanding of the Universe and it's brilliant to see the Festival of Speed welcoming students as part of its STEM programme.
“I’m particularly looking forward to exploring the parallels between space and deep sea exploration.”
The 2025 Festival of Speed is set to be headlined by the biggest ever celebration hosted here at Goodwood, honouring the 75th anniversary of the Formula 1 World Championship.
