It isn’t just Carl Fogarty we’re celebrating this weekend, it’s the ‘golden era’ of the World Superbike Championship. To mark such an occasion, you’d imagine we’d have a decent collection of WorldSBK machines? Well you’d be right.
There are no fewer than 18 incredible thoroughbred racing motorcycles at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard this weekend. The oldest is a 1993 Ducati 888, the most recent a 2018 Milwaukee Aprilia RSV4, with everything in between.
There are two Hondas, a 1997 RC45 and a 2001 VTR1000, plus a 2002 Foggy Petronas FP1 and a Petronas FP1, as well as a 2010 Kawasaki ZX-10R. But it’s Ducati that dominates the entry list.
Alongside the aforementioned 888, there are two 1994 916s, two 1997 916s and one 1999 916. Then there’s a 2000 996, a 2002 998 RS, a 2007 999 F07, a 2008 1098, a 2010 1198 and a 2014 1199. Not a bad line-up, wouldn’t you say?
Other than Carl Fogarty, the 1994, ‘95, ‘98 and ‘99 World Superbike Champion, there are a few other names on the Hill you may recognise, including two-time champion Colin Edwards and 2011 champ Carlos Checa.
Motorcycles aren’t in force here at the Festival of Speed, but those that are here are very much worth looking at.
