There are some powerful machines on display at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, but nothing can compare to the power of the Hawk T1A used by the world’s most famous air display team, the Red Arrows.
It’s easy to lose perspective on things at FOS – a place where the world’s most extraordinary machines are so densely packed the baseline level for losing your mind over a car is so much higher than it would be anywhere else. Similarly, it’s easy to look up at the Red Arrows and merely think ‘that’s cool’. But let’s take a moment to remember what’s going on here.
Nine incredible pilots who’ve all flown in fast jets for more than 1,500 hours each before participating in one of the hardest job interviews in the world are darting around over your head at speeds of up to 500mph. The pilots’ Hawk T1As, first used by the RAF Red Arrows in 1979, are pulling up to 7g in some of their manoeuvres just feet apart, with their Rolls-Royce Turbomeca Adour Mk 861 turbofan engines producing up to 5,700lb of thrust. It’s absolutely wild.
So, take a look at our gallery, and take a look at the Red Arrows when they fly overhead again.
