We say it every year, but the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard isn’t just about cars. There’s always a brilliant selection of motorcycles to feast your eyes on, and 2025 is no different.
We’ll start with Royal Enfield, which has brought along a quartet of Shotgun 650s. They’re no ordinary Shotgun 650s, though, these are four entirely unique custom builds. For all of us here it’s a case of want, want, want and want.
‘The Kingsman' by Kingston Custom is the most unconventional looking. Hailing from Germany, its swept handlebars and teardrop shape are stunning, but it’s the storage compartment behind the rear wheel that really gets us. Lined with wood and suede, it contains a mirror, comb, bottle opener, gin, tonic, glasses, cutlery and an umbrella. Sign us up for a road trip.
Alongside The Kingsman is the Sure Shot Custom Motorcycles ‘Samurai’ from Japan, the ‘Sawn Off Shotgun’ from Medaza Custom Motorcycles in the Republic of Ireland, and the 'Always Something' from Icon Motosports in Oregon, USA. Three out of the four of these have been ridden by the people who’ve made them, too.
Moving on to something that isn’t just hideously fast but drop-dead gorgeous, too, the BMW Motorrad Concept RR. Inspired by the M 1000 RR that Toprak Razgatlioglu used to dominate the 2024 FIM Superbike World Championship with, the Concept RR uses the same water-cooled inline four-cylinder engine with 230PS (169kW), with identical engine management, traction control and engine braking systems.
Every other component has been designed and built to be as light as possible, with aluminium and carbon fibre everywhere. It’s a stunning, stunning creation, with gorgeous gold details. We want one so much.
Also from BMW is the R12 GS, a new motorcycle that’s as comfortable off road as on it, with styling inspired by the R 80 G/S from the 1980s. It’s a really pretty thing, available in black, white, red and blue (just like the R 80 G/S) and gold with red detailing. The classic BMW Motorrad colours are appealing, but that gold is something else.
Finally, we’ve seen two LiveWire S2 Alpinistas. The all-electric duo use LiveWire’s Arrow System 2 architecture, with a 10.5kWh battery and a 85PS (63kw), 263Nm (194lb ft) electric motor. They’re fast, capable of firing to 60mph (not 62mph) in 3.0 seconds exactly. But while quick and capable, they’re not about outright speed, more delivering a fun, all-electric riding experience whether you’re out in the hills or commuting through the city.
So there we have it, this array at the 2025 Festival of Speed has left us never wanting a bike more.
