An electrifying focus of FOS Future Lab presented by Randox in 2025 was the E1 Powerboat Series, the world’s first all-electric marine motorsport championship.
Founded by Alejandro Agag, the mastermind behind Formula E, and Rodi Basso, a former McLaren engineer, E1 merges cutting-edge engineering with a bold commitment to ocean conservation.

This revolutionary approach to water sports is contested on the RaceBird, a hydrofoil-equipped electric powerboat. Capable of reaching speeds up to 58mhp, powered by a 150kW electric motor and a 35kWh Kreisel Electric battery, these boats glide above the water, minimising drag and environmental impact with zero emissions and negligible wake.
Visitors to the 2025 Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard were able to witness a RaceBird up close and experience its high-speed capabilities through an immersive simulator, offering a taste of E1’s adrenaline-pumping races held in iconic locales like Monaco, Venice and Miami.
Beyond speed, the E1 Series champions marine conservation through its Blue Impact Championship, set to fully launch in 2025. Teams compete not only on the water but also in environmental initiatives, such as coastal ecosystem restoration guided by chief scientist Professor Carlos Duarte.

This dual focus on performance and sustainability is part of the FOS Future Lab’s ‘Our Big Blue Dot’ theme, where ocean exploration and conservation come together to address global challenges.
The series’ star-studded team owners — including NFL legend Tom Brady, tennis royalty Rafael Nadal, Hollywood star Will Smith, and Grammy Award-winning Marc Anthony — aim to bring global attention to E1’s eco-conscious mission, while each team is required to have a male and female pilot sharing equal driving duties. Preparing for its second season, the marine motorsport includes races in Jeddah, Doha, Dubrovnik and Miami.
The E1 Series recently made headlines with a River Thames showrun on 2nd July 2025, where the RaceBird, piloted by Tom Chiappe of Team Rafa, raced past the Houses of Parliament and Tower Bridge.

The RaceBird’s technology is already influencing sustainable marine transportation, with potential applications in commercial boating. By promoting greener practices, E1 aims to reduce the carbon footprint of recreational and commercial vessels.
Its appearance at FOS Future Lab marks a pivotal moment for electric marine innovation. With its futuristic RaceBird, star-powered teams, and unwavering commitment to ocean protection, E1 is poised to inspire a new generation of sustainable water sports, making waves both on the water and in the world of technology.
