Each day at the 2025 Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, we’ve been dedicating some time to celebrating the career of the incomparable Gordon Murray, with the Gordon Murray Automotive Central Feature moment. A moment that truly is showstopping.
It starts with the Gordon Murray: 60 Years of Revolutionary Design batch making their way up the Hill, cars spanning the 1967 IGM-Ford T1 he raced himself in South Africa and the Formula 1 Championship-winning Brabham BT52 of 1983, through to more modern creations like the McLaren F1 and GMA’s latest, the T.50s.
The likes of Dario Franchetti, who has been involved in the development of all of GMA’s cars, have been present to applaud the great designer, who on Friday took in the moment with a glass of red in hand.
Franchitti kicked off the 2025 Festival of Speed on Thursday at the wheel of a T.50, with the Duke of Richmond in the passenger seat for the traditional event opening, and on Friday His Grace watched on as all of the cars parked up on the turning circle, surrounding the spectacular mermaid-inspired Central Feature.
To see so many of Murray’s creations in one place is something to behold, and the skies over Goodwood House turned yellow, red and green, sparkling in a fantastic fireworks display. ‘Driving perfection’ is one of the slogans written on the banners unfurled in front of the House, and we can’t think of a more perfect moment in a day spent at the Festival of Speed. Luckily, we get to appreciate the career of Gordon Murray for another two days to come.
