Spectators at the 2025 Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard have been treated to a vast array of spectacular machinery in motion on the famous Goodwood Hill, but one particular car has created quite the literal shockwave.
We all did a double take when BMW revealed the new Vision Driving Experience, and saw that it was capable of producing 18,000Nm (13,276lb ft) of torque, but, somehow, it is true.
We got to see this experimental concept car, which is designed to demonstrate the potential of BMW’s future electric powertrain, in action for the first time at the Festival of Speed, and the pyrotechnics away from the start line were as expected.
The car and its surroundings were instantly engulfed in a cloud of tyre smoke as it squealed away, somehow gaining traction before setting off to complete its debut run on the Hill.
In terms of styling, the Vision Driving Experience is a close relative to BMW’s Neue Klasse, but the purpose of this car is to provide a test bed for the mechanical elements that will power that next generation of cars.
Quite which of those new models will expel 18,000Nm remains to be seen, but we can’t help but be intrigued by this car’s debut at the Festival of Speed.
